Math Department
We consist of two middle school math teachers and three high school math teachers. In the middle school we have Elizabeth Laverty, seventh grade teacher at ext. 239 and Linda Ewens, eighth grade teacher at ext. 240. In the high school we have Julie Walton, ext. 227, Theresa Dube, ext. 232, and Mary-lynn Wright ext. 226. My link is a work in progress-- the extended math website has been revised and should be able to offer information about courses, portfolios, and links to helpful sites.
Our high school teachers share the responsibility of teaching each course that we offer. The course continuum is as follows:
Transition Math (Pre-Algebra and Pre-Geometry), Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry/Precalculus, AP Calculus AB (full year course), and Probability and Stats.
We also have a Business Math course which can be taken after a student passes Algebra I. Our courses are offered as either a semester based course, or a full year course, except for Calculus which will always be a full year course in order for students to be prepared for the Advanced Placement Exam in the Spring. To learn more information about the AP Calculus program, or the SAT’s please visit the College Board website listed below.
High school students must receive 4 math credits in order to graduate. Some students will receive credits from the technical center in lieu of the courses listed above.
