Language Arts Department

English courses at Green Mountain represent a continuum of learning in the areas of reading, writing, word usage, public speaking, listening, reasoning, literature, media and research. In these courses students will survey the major literary movements and authors with the goal of attaining greater knowledge and appreciation of the different types of literature.

Literature invites us into a continuing dialogue about the human experience reflecting on the emotions of our lives. Students will make connections to the world at large and their personal world through characters and their environments in literary works and media presentations. The writings elicited from the students will reflect upon the discovery and interpretation of these universal themes and emotions within the human experience. Insight, supporting evidence, and fluency of expression will be emphasized throughout the English program.
