Dear Students, Staff and Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back to school.  As we begin the 2010-2011 school year, it is important to recognize the keys to being a successful student.

They are:
1.  Get involved!  Find a sport or club activity that you can become an active participant in.  You will meet new people and learn new things.
2.  Develop a relationship with an adult!  Find an adult in the building that you are comfortable talking to and share your feelings with that person each day.
3.  Stay current with your schoolwork!  Do your homework on time and according to instruction.  If you have any questions, ask!  Your teachers are here to help you.

We want to be successful and happy.  To that end we also want for you to be safe, both physically and mentally.  You deserve to be in a learning environment that is free from harassment and bullying.  If you have problems in these areas, let your teacher, guidance counselor, Associate Principal, Nurse, or Principal know immediately.

Values and Essential Behaviors:
*Integrity-we will speak openly and honestly and never gossip
*Positive Spirit-we will show up enthusiastically with a can-do attitude toward work and school
*Commitment to mission-we will put our school and our mission first
*Mutual Respect-we will actively respect each other and always assume the best in everyone
*I pledge to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight
*I will keep my standards high and help others do the same
*I will live by the golden rule and treat others as I would like to be treated.  I will speak the truth at all times
*I will do all I can for the good of my school and country

Almost a 100 years ago, Milton Hershey wrote the values and essential behaviors that I have listed above.  I think they are very applicable to all schools in this modern time.  Have a great school year.  Remember, smart is something you become when you work hard.  There are no experts, only learners.

Principal, GMUHS
